Gauteng launches #RequestaSlotGP campaign to address licence renewal backlog
The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has launched a #RequestASlotGP campaign to enable driver's licence card holders to request and be allocated a booking slot.
The campaign is aimed to run concurrently with the already successful Smart Mobility Weekends Campaign. As past of the campaign, a Web-based licence renewal booking system has been created where cardholders can, at their convenience, request a slot.
Previously, a notice on slot availability was sent to those cardholders whose licences were soon to expire without them asking for it. Now the onus is on cardholders to take the initiative and make the request.
Roads and Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo says the campaign will form partnerships with people, motorists and licence cardholders to create platforms for them to request a slot.
He adds that applicants will be allocated slots within 30 days, upon receipt of the required, full information by the department.
“This information will be used primarily to prioritise those whose driving licence cards had expired during the Covid-19 lockdown period or earlier.”
Mamabolo also commends the 500 000 cardholders who previously received notices and took up the available slots to have their licence cards renewed.
He further appealed to applicants to honour their appointments (slots) or at least communicate about not making it through on time. This will ensure slots can be allocated to others.
An Android-based application for booking slots is also under development and will be available from September 6, the MEC says.
