Power tools and hardware wholesaler Matus South Africa’s premier garden brand Aquacraft partnered with Johannesburg-based nongovernmental organisation Siyakhana on an organic vegetable garden situated in Bezuidenhout Park, which supplies a range of fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs to local education development centres and disadvantaged surrounding communities that need the nutrition.

“Our commitment as a brand means that a portion of all Aquacraft sales will go towards the expansion of urban vegetable gardens across the country, which will increase access to fresh food sources. As a brand, we encourage consumers to use their purchasing power to buy from brands that are driving social change. No impact is too small,” says Aquacraft marketing and brand manager Candice Knipe-Tlhotlhalemajoe.

Aquacraft wants to inspire enthusiastic gardeners and communities alike to see open spaces as an opportunity to plant organic vegetables, fruits and herbs, be it in their back yards, in planter boxes on their balconies or alongside pathways.

She notes that Aquacraft is bringing about change and its products are catalysts for garden growth while the brand is a catalyst for social change.

The garden has a legacy of success which spans over ten years and has grown to an acre of land. Aquacraft, launched in South Africa in 2018, has grown over three years by double digits. It can be found in most retailers.

“Over the next few months, we will be rolling out various campaigns in the hope of creating a movement that will see us all contributing toward a greener, healthier environment which will ultimately create a sustainable green future,” concludes Knipe-Tlhotlhalemajoe.
