French enviro Minister visits South Africa to discuss just energy transition

French Ecological Transition Minister Barbara Pompili will visit South Africa for two days from October 15 to discuss just energy transition matters with government.

France and South Africa have similar priorities in the fields of climate change and biodiversity as well as others related to the environment.

She will be meeting with Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Barbara Creecy, as well as representatives from State-owned power utility Eskom, national parks manager SANParks and the South African National Biodiversity Institute.

The visit comes ahead of the COP26 meeting in Glasgow, in November, and follows on climate envoy visits from Germany, the US, the UK and the European Union around a just energy transition.
