Fluor Igoda Projects (Pty) Ltd, an engineering, procurement, project and construction management (EPCM) services company, recently contributed to the sustainability of three local black owned companies in Durban as part of their commitment to Enterprise and Supplier Development initiatives.

Established in 2006, Durban-based Fluor Igoda Projects (Pty) Ltd is a joint venture company with Fluor SA (Pty) Ltd holding 70 percent ownership, and Igoda Projects 30 percent. The key drivers of the joint venture company were to create a platform for skills transfer from Fluor to Igoda Projects and to help them grow as an EPCM services provider in its targeted markets, as well as to enable Fluor to implement its transformation agenda in compliance with the broad based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) mandate.

“One of the five pillars of BBBEE under the new codes is Enterprise and Supplier Development which is at the core of job creation as well as increasing black companies in the mainstream of the economy. This can be described as a process wherein a large established organization supports emerging small to medium sized businesses through capital injection, coaching, mentoring or any other forms of assistance towards improving these businesses’ financial and operational capacity,” said Rishad Khan, managing director of Fluor Igoda Projects.”

To contribute towards the growth of small to medium sustainable enterprises in the petrochemical industry, Fluor Igoda identified black owned emerging entities in engineering and construction value chain that had potential for development.

The three companies that fully complied with the qualifying criteria were Ponthal (Pty) Ltd (a personal protective equipment provider), Espanini Corporate Investments (Pty) Ltd (occupational health, wellness and safety services) and Qondile Enterprises (Pty) Ltd (stationery supplier). These entities each received assistance through grants and related contributions, as well as through human resource capacity.

Fluor Igoda has a long and successful history in the petrochemical industry and has worked on terminals and depots across the country supporting key clients with asset maintenance, upgrades, environmental compliance and capacity increase projects.

“We have a long standing relationships with many refineries and have developed a solid platform to support the bulk fuels storage and logistics network,” concluded Khan. “We are also pleased that we could now give back to the communities in which we operate through enterprise development.
