Self-storage company StorAge in July announced the development of its flagship storage complex in Sunninghill, Gauteng.

The company describes the new facility as StorAge’s entry into the Johannesburg “inner ring” comprising the city’s high-density, central and northern suburbs.

StorAge Sunninghill is an example of the contemporary self-storage offering that the company is developing in Gauteng and will be well placed to serve the surrounding and ever-expanding commercial, residential and retail nodes.

Situated on Kikuyu road, the multistorey facility will take advantage of the site’s access to the N1 highway and Rivonia road and is well placed to serve the areas of Sunninghill, Woodmead, Rivonia, Paulshoff and Lonehill.

Offering over 7 500 m2 of self storage space with the option of over 680 units ranging in size between 3 m2 to 30 m2, StorAge Sunninghill will complement the existing StorAge portfolio in and around greater Johannesburg.

The facility will offer parking for self-storage clients and 24-hour security and tagged access, along with a modern and functional customer interface. A reception area will provide customers with help desks, product displays, lounge areas and Internet stations.

“We are excited to introduce this industry leading self-storage facility to Johannesburg. Careful consideration has been taken with regard to the aesthetics of StorAge Sunninghill, which will complement the surrounding built environment with its impactful and efficient design,” says StorAge CEO Gavin Lucas, adding that StorAge is confident about the “enormous potential” for this area.

Meanwhile, i

n January, StorAge announced its acquisition and opening of StorAge Springfield, in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Springfield facility is StorAge’s second self- storage facility in Durban and forms part of the company’s broader strategy to establish an increased presence in KwaZulu-Natal.

Acquired in December 2014, the facility offers customers over 5 000 m2 of self-storage space with over 300 units, which range in size from 9 m2 to 24 m2.

StorAge Springfield is located in the Umgeni business park, which is surrounded by a wide range of users and is well located to take advantage of the completion of the Umgeni Interchange.

The property will undergo an extensive refurbishment to provide customers with the high level of quality and service that is associated with the StorAge brand.

Customers can expect a convenient retail store including help desks, self-storage merchandise and a business centre with Internet access. Improved security, including tagged access, will provide an easily accessible and safe self- storage offering.

StorAge property development manager Brandon Joscelyne says the Springfield facility will complement the company’s Mount Edgecombe-based big box facility, allowing StorAge to gain further traction in the Durban market.

“The Umgeni business park is a well-known and frequently visited value retail and business hub, which provided the necessary property fundamentals as motivation to strategically position ourselves in this area. “We believe the facility will have a seamless transition into the StorAge stable of properties and we are looking forward to rebranding the store to correspond with our brand standards.”
