The first two completed office buildings in the new “all-green” Bridgeways commercial precinct in Century City, in Cape Town, have been awarded Green Star South Africa (SA) – Office V1 Design ratings, developers Rabie Property Group announced on Friday.

The new ratings brought the number of Green Star rated office buildings in Century City, all of which had been developed by Rabie, to three.

The two buildings, of around 3 800 m2 each, namely The Business Centre, which was completed in October last year, and No 3 Bridgeways, which was handed over to tobacco company Philip Morris in December, were both designed by Vivid Architects and managed by Rabie Property Administrators.

The buildings had also been submitted to the Green Building Council of South Africa for a Green Star SA – Office V1 As Built rating which, if successful, would make them the first buildings in Century City to be rated as such.

Rabie project manager Steve Cloete said it was the company’s intention to develop Bridgeways as an entirely green precinct with about 150 000 m2 of premium-grade offices.

“As far as we are aware this will make it the largest green precinct in the country,” he said.
