The installation of a renewable energy solution at a local manufacturing facility has seen a significant contribution to the company’s energy savings.

The investment saw 684 photovoltaic solar panels being installed, creating a 223 kW generating system and providing almost 20% of the daily electricity demand for the injection moulding facility.

According to Multotec, the new system has both economic and environmental benefits, with a potential saving of about 30 000 kg of carbon dioxide emissions each month, the equivalent of planting about 100 trees a month.

The company states that it sought a solution to its rising electricity costs that would leverage the latest renewable energy technology. In collaboration with solar power experts Energy Capital, an investigation of its energy consumption and available opportunities was conducted and it was decided to run a battery-less system which could augment the existing municipal supply.

System performance can be monitored daily on an online dashboard and excess electricity is channelled back into the main grid at no cost to the municipality, explains Multotec.
