Drive engineering specialist SEW Eurodrive will launch its ECDriveS at this year’s bauma CONEXPO AFRICA for the global construction and mining industries.

The drive, which will be displayed throughout the four- day event, comprises a modular- driven roller and gear motor, and includes a 20% higher power rating and overload capacity. An integrated encoder allows for accurate positioning, with intelligent centralised or decentralised motor control, improved service life and durability, as well as futureproof ethernet networking.

Commenting on the addition to the company’s product range, SEW Eurodrive national sales manager Norman Maleka says the drive bridges the gap in the company’s product portfolio, as the company can now cover smaller conveyor requirements whereby a standard gear motor might be “overkill.”

Additional features of the ECDriveS include precision ramp-up, zero-pressure accumulation, merging and tracking, torque on demand, automatic configuration and sensor recognition, diagnostics and an ingress protection rating of 54.

End-users for the new drive system range from original- equipment manufacturers to system integrators and specific applications such as packing houses and automotive manufacturers.

“Our aim is to offer complete solutions, as opposed to simply being a component supplier. Our expertise, experience and extensive project record stand us in good stead in this regard,” he notes.

Maleka describes the event as an ideal platform to target potential end-users of SEW Eurodrive’s diverse products in a range of industrial sectors, and visitors to the stand will see the latest products in action, including a mini-conveyor set-up and transfer station.

As part of the company’s ‘total solutions’ approach, its latest DRN series of International Efficiency 3-compliant motors, and the LTP-B Eco Drive for pump and fan control in a range of niche sectors, such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning, wine farms and underground mining, will also be on display.

“bauma CONEXPO AFRICA is further exposure for SEW Eurodrive, since we service clients who will exhibit. This event gives us an opportunity to engage further and learn first-hand about the market trends and requirements, as industry players will all be gathered under one roof,” Maleka highlights.

He notes that the company aims to remain relevant as one of the key players in the industry through networking at bauma.
Further commenting on the current state of the mining industry, Maleka notes that, while the market in general has not been favourable, SEW Eurodrive has continued with major investment in stock and personnel, as well as streamlining its service offering, especially in terms of technical and aftermarket support.
“We forged ahead through sheer determination and a drive to succeed. We were able to review ourselves as a business by focusing on in-house and external challenges. In this way, we listened more to our clients and responded quicker using the right solutions,” he enthuses, noting that the company has entrenched its valuable partnerships and built new ones in the process.

SEW Eurodrive works closely with clients and has developed a holistic approach to becoming the service provider with a range of products available, Maleka concludes.
