Children from Alexandra township, in Johannesburg, run through drills on a new R8.5-million artificial football pitch at the Totalsports Safe-Hub, which was launched last week. The Safe-Hub initiative, which was started by Amandla EduFootball and is supported by the South African Football Association, is a football-based after-school programme for youth development. The Safe-Hub programme has resulted in reduced crime and violence in the areas in which the hubs operate, has improved the educational results of participants and has created a number of jobs for local youth.
