A revolutionary self-regenerating concept tyre has been unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show.

According to Goodyear, its reCharge concept is designed to adapt and change to meet the future requirements of personalised electric mobility.

The concept includes a number of features, based on three focus areas:

Personalised

At the core of the reCharge concept is a reloadable and biodegradable tread compound that can be recharged with individual capsules, aimed at radically simplifying the process of replacing tyres.

Filled with a customised liquid compound, the capsule would allow the tread to regenerate and the tyre to adapt, over time, to different climate and road conditions, or to the way an individual chooses to travel.

Artificial intelligence would be used to create a driver profile and the liquid compound would be customised accordingly, generating a compound blend tailored to each individual.

Sustainable

The compound itself would be made from a biological material and would be reinforced with fibres inspired by spider silk, acknowledged as one of the toughest natural materials in the world. This would make it both extremely durable and 100 % biodegradable.

Hassle-Free

In addition to simplifying the process of replacing tyres with rechargeable capsules, the tread would be supported by a lightweight, non-pneumatic frame and tall-and-narrow shape.

The thin, robust low-maintenance construction would aim to eliminate the need for pressure maintenance or downtime as a result of punctures.
