Community project to bring relief to many
The uncertain times in which we find ourselves have created a unique opportunity for businesses to band together to assist in the fight against both the COVID-19 pandemic and malnutrition, which is equally significant.
Tongaat Hulett, NCP Alcohols, Spring Lights Gas (SLG), Nampak Rigid Plastics and the Southern Lodestar Foundation have partnered in a joint project to combat these threats. The companies will donate 250 000 litres of hand sanitiser to all provincial hospitals and clinics throughout KwaZulu Natal; Southern Lodestar will donate and distribute 60 000 kilograms of instant porridge to children who desperately need nutritional support; NCP Alcohols will contribute to the production of the alcohol in the sanitiser, its blending and placing in drums; and SLG will supply the energy needed to produce the alcohol.
The implementation of this project, which is called “Committed to Community: Health Partners during COVID-19” will take place with the cooperation and support of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. “COVID-19 has brought to focus the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing societal challenges in the province,” says Dr Sandile Tshabalala, Head of the Department. “The sanitiser will slow the spread of the virus and the instant porridge will be allocated to children and vulnerable households. As a department, we welcome these significant contributions, and continue to encourage all our social partners to join hands with us in fighting the pandemic.”
SLG is committed to restricting the spread of the virus and urges all South Africans to join us in doing your best to stay healthy in these challenging times.
