Since 2011, the Deloitte Global Chief Procurement Officer Survey has been providing exclusive insights into the key challenges and opportunities shaping the course of procurement, serving as a global benchmark of sentiment about the function.

Recognising the importance of bringing chief procurement officers (CPOs) into higher level C-suite conversations, Deloitte has announced that it is pleased to be the Platinum sponsor at the 2021 15th Annual Smart Procurement World Indaba. Deloitte and global technology platform for business spend management Coupa will also host the CPO Forum breakfast, which will take place at the Deloitte Waterfall Office on 15th September 2021.

The Smart Procurement World Indaba is South Africa’s longest-standing event for procurement and inbound supply chain professionals. The Indaba will focus on redefining the profession, which has faced enormous pressure during the COVID-19 crisis. The two-day online conference takes place on 14 and 15 September 2021, followed by online event workshops on 20 and 21 September 2021.

“We will be showcasing our thought leadership across procurement executives who are looking for advisory and support to take their teams to new heights, in areas such as strategic sourcing, procurement operations models and training,” explains Yash Singh, Associate Director, Sourcing and Procurement, Deloitte Africa.

“We saw this as a great opportunity to highlight our superior market offering through the partnership with Coupa to put us in a good position to build credibility and differentiate ourselves. The conference will allow us to establish new relationships with procurement executives across the African continent. The breakfast is an excellent opportunity to address CPOs and build credibility as they make decisions regarding vendors and other spend in their respective organisations.

“It is critical that CPOs are brought into higher level C-suite conversations. They bring significant value to the table; whether it is in navigating risk, helping realise digital transformation, or furthering corporate responsibility initiatives,” Singh says.

In addition, CPOs have been transcending their traditional roles, moving toward roles as transformational catalysts and intelligent strategists. According to Deloitte’s Global CPO Survey, high-performing CPOs spend almost 15% more of their time as strategists and target more than 50% of their time to be spent on strategic activities. Procurement has emerged as a key driver of competitiveness in modern business across a wide range of priorities, and CPOs must respond accordingly.
