Multinational energy infrastructure- focused company Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I) was last month awarded a $60-million contract by JGSK – a joint venture between global engineering company JGC Corporation and general contractor SK Engineering & Construction.

The project scope includes the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction of 39 storage tanks and two spheres for the Clean Fuel Project (CFP), an initiative of Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) to upgrade and expand two existing KNPC refineries.

“This contract underlines the confidence our clients have in CB&I’s commitment to safety, reliability and on-time solutions for complex projects. CB&I has a long history of experience in new construction and reconstruction work in Kuwait and our infrastructure and capabilities in the Middle East will enable us to execute the scope of work outlined for the CFP safely and efficiently,” says CB&I fabrication services president Luke Scorsone.

Meanwhile, CB&I signed a contract for nearly $90-million with offshore oil and gas producer Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (Adma-Opco) in October last year to conduct a major overhaul of five crude oil storage tanks on Das Island, the site of Adma-Opco’s main industrial base in the United Arab Emirates.

“CB&I’s comprehensive capabilities and experience in designing and constructing storage tanks has made us an industry leader for more than 100 years. It has also given us the know-how to successfully and safely execute tank overhaul projects, such as this one for Adma-Opco,” notes Scorsone.

CB&I was also awarded a $49-million contract in August last year from independent oil, petroleum products, chemicals, biofuels and gas storage company Oiltanking Beaumont Partners. The project scope includes the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction of 12 internal floating-roof crude oil storage tanks at Oiltanking’s terminal in Beaumont, Texas, in the US.

“We are currently finishing crude oil storage tanks for Oiltanking at another project site in Houston. Being awarded this fast-tracked project builds on our long-standing relationship with our customer and its confidence in CB&I’s commitment to safety, work quality and schedule certainty,” concludes Scorsone.
