Brazil-based major aerospace and defence group Embraer has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two Netherlands-based aviation companies – maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade company Fokker Services and complex engineering, aircraft completion, conversion, refurbishment and upgrade company Fokker Techniek (both part of the Fokker Services Group). The MoU creates a framework for the three companies to investigate opportunities for cooperation across a broad range of aviation markets in the commercial, defence and support sectors.

“Fokker Techniek and Fokker Services are well-known and reputable aerospace companies with roots in building aircraft and supporting aircraft fleets worldwide,” highlighted Embraer Services and Support president and CEO Johann Bordais. “Their network, experience and worldwide recognised aviation tradition will be a perfect match with Embraer Services and Support. We believe [that] together we can service our customers better with tailor-made solutions.”   

The three companies will now start discussing a number of opportunities to combine and exploit their respective capabilities and expertise to launch new projects. In the defence sector, this will include future fleet support and potential modifications (to meet specific customer requirements) for Embraer’s C-390 Millennium airlifter. Also in the defence sector is the potential for special mission and special transport conversions of aircraft.

“Whether it’s the defence market with our support for the C-390 Millennium transport aircraft or any type of support or development in [the] commercial market, we are confident that many exciting projects will arise over the coming years,” affirmed Fokker Services CEO Menzo van der Beek.    

There are also a range of potential opportunities in the commercial sector. These include engineering and logistics support. There is also a potential hydrogen-powered aircraft development project. And, in the aftermarket segment, opportunities exist in logistics, repair services, programme support and other services.
