South Africa’s much-loved Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, will make way for Busisiwe Mkhwebane when her term ends next month. Madonsela succeeded, against all the odds, in elevating the Chapter 9 institution to a level few could have imagined when she assumed office in 2009. The net result is that expectations are high and Mkhwebane will need to hit the ground running, with much attention likely to be paid to her handling of the State-capture probe.
