After much speculation and back-and-forth negotiations, Anheuser-Busch InBev agreed last week to buy SABMiller in a deal valued at around R1-trillion – a record for the industry. Pictured is a bottle of Budweiser, which is brewed by Anheuser-Busch InBev. South Africans, who still jealously covet the old South African Breweries and its products, will no doubt have mixed feelings about the deal. Should the transaction be consummated, the new entity will account for a third of all beer sales globally.
