State-owned Armaments Corporation of South Africa (Armscor) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) that will see Armscor assist ATNS with evaluating and configuring projects or programmes and contract management in the communication, navigation, surveillance and information technology areas for three years.

“We are ready to use our expertise and experience to provide ATNS with quality services. The aim is to add value and help them achieve their objectives,” says Armscor CEO Solomzi Mbada.

The parties will establish a management committee on the basis of the service level management or project agreement. The MoU sets out roles and responsibilities to be carried out by each party in the implementation process. It takes into consideration the scope of work and obligations to ensure a mutually beneficial working relationship.

ATNS CEO Dumisani Sangweni says ATNS is looking forward to working with an organisation such as Armscor, which has achieved many years of good governance.

“We are looking forward to learning about best practices in the fields of project and contract management and, in the same vein, share our own expertise, knowledge and experiences. This will allow us to achieve an effective integrated business management system and a path of efficiency in our processes whilst successfully carrying out our mandate,” he says.

Meanwhile, Armscor prides itself on maintaining high-quality international standards through rigorous testing and evaluation processes on all its technology management projects. The organisation has extensive experience in providing turnkey defence solutions, Mbada says.

“This partnership will create a platform for Armscor to demonstrate its capability and pave the way for more effective and efficient business processes aimed at generating revenue,” he adds.
