Global miner AngloGold Ashanti has appointed Jochen Tilk chairperson effective May 28, subject to his re-election at an annual general meeting on the same day.

This follows after the incumbent Maria Ramos opted not to stand for re-election. She has served as AngloGold’s chairperson since December 2020.

Tilk has been a nonexecutive director for AngloGold since January 2019 and is also chairperson of the board’s investment committee.

He was previously executive director of Canadian agriculture company Nutrien, as well as president and CEO of Potash Corporation.

Tilk is also a nonexecutive director on the board of energy utility Emera, in addition to being on the board of nonprofit organisation the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

AngloGold lead independent director Rhidwaan Gasant says Ramos provided impactful and principled leadership during her tenure, which helped the group make strides in advancing its strategy and delivering on its objectives.

In turn, he adds that Tilk’s experience and record, as well as strong institutional and industry knowledge, will represent the interests of shareholders and other stakeholders of AngloGold well.

Moreover, nonexecutive director and chairperson of the compensation and human resources committee Maria Richter has also chosen not to stand for re-election at the upcoming annual general meeting, with Albert Garner to succeed her in this position.
