Following the December announcement that steel producer ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA) CEO and executive director Nonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita would step down on February 18, COO Dr Hans Ludwig Rosenstock has been appointed acting CEO and executive director while the board embarks on a search for a permanent head.

Rosenstock, whose appointment would become effective from February 19, holds a degree in physical engineering from the Technische Universitaet Clausthal, in Germany, and a doctorate in engineering from the Rheinisch Westfaelische Technische Hochschule Aachen, also in Germany.

He had successively occupied the position of COO of Mittal Steel Ruhrort and Mittal Steel Hochfeld, ArcelorMittal Galati and ArcelorMittal Rodange & Schifflange, as well as CEO of ArcelorMittal Duisburg.

In 2011, he held the position of COO and vice-chairperson of ArcelorMittal Ostrava before moving to his current position as AMSA COO in 2012.

Dr Rosenstock was also recently appointed ArcelorMittal Group VP.
