All 35 turbines at the R1.9-billion Noupoort wind farm project, in the Northern Cape, have been installed and the plant is scheduled to enter commercial operations in July.

The 80 MW wind farm, selected during the third bid window of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, has also been connected to the Eskom grid.

Following 315 abnormal-load trips, project manager Martina Flanagan reports that all of the 100 m tall Siemens turbines have been installed and that commissioning has commenced.
