Members of agricultural industry association Agri SA spent R331-million on transformation during the 2016/17 financial year and reached an estimated 108 307 beneficiaries, including 55 000 farmers.

This is according to the 2018 Agri SA transformation report, which was released on Tuesday, and is the first consolidated report on transformation within agriculture.

The report identifies best practices and explores opportunities for further growth and finding solutions to developmental challenges in the industry.

“There is a great deal of energy within the agricultural sector to make transformation work, but we must also ensure that the resources that flow towards these aims lead to truly sustainable farms,” Agri SA deputy director Christo van der Rheede said in a statement on Tuesday.
