Much attention was rightfully given to South Africa’s Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, for her inclusion in Time Magazine’s May 5 list of the world’s 100 most influential people. But it is also worth highlighting and celebrating the fact that Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was also named under the headline ‘Guardian of Nigeria’s Public Funds’ – no small task, particularly now that the West African economy is officially the largest on the continent.
