Absa has appointed former central bank deputy governor Daniel Mminele as CE from January 15, replacing Maria Ramos who retired last February, the banking group said on Monday.

René van Wyk has been leading the bank on an interim basis since Ramos stepped down.

“We are delighted to welcome Daniel to the Absa family. He brings with him a deep understanding of the financial services industry both in South Africa and abroad,” Absa chairperson Wendy Lucas-Bull said in a statement.

"His unique skills set and global perspective make him a suitable leader to drive our bank’s focus on long-term growth that is digitally-led across our markets."
