A new in-car media display unit is designed to deliver immersive quality that features anti-glare touchscreen technology and a range of connectivity options.

The 8.95-inch in-car dashboard unit aims to promote safer and smarter driving habits from South African road users, by enabling drivers to operate the device more easily, thanks to the easy-to-read screen.

Sony’s XAV-AX8050D display unit features a single-DIN rear chassis with a three-way adjustable mount and smartphone connectivity options including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and WebLink Cast.

The company asserts that safety and innovation were central to the design of its latest media receiver, resulting in a lighter touch operation and improved visibility allowing information to be seen at a glance.

In addition, the display aims to minimise distractions for the driver while searching for directions on navigation applications (apps) on the unit.

Key features include:

  • The 8.95-inch, anti-glare display hovers over the dashboard and works in a single-DIN space.
  • The mount can be adjusted in three directions to allow for flexible installation in a wide variety of vehicles.
  • Apple CarPlay integrates an iPhone with the car audio’s display and controls and offers support for third-party navigation apps.
  • Android Auto offers a safe and convenient way to use a smartphone with the car's display. Google Assistant allows for the use of voice-activated commands and aims to keep the driver focussed on the road and hands on the wheel.
  • WebLink Cast is a lightweight app delivery platform designed specifically for in-vehicle use. Using the Android or iOS device connection, it has the capability to mirror smartphone screen rights on the XAV-AX8050D display for responsive infotainment.
  • The rearview camera-ready function displays visuals from the connected rearview camera and can be accessed when the vehicle is put in reverse or by tapping an icon on the home screen.
