India-based tyre and rubber recycling company S&J Granulate Solutions has started operating a new fully automated tyre-recycling plant in the Vapi region, Gujurat, India.
The plant was built by Denmark-based mechanical engineering company Eldan Recycling and supplied by provider of industrial services in plant construction and engineering Ferrostaal.
The production line is capable of processing up to 5 000 kg/h of shredded used tyres, the highest capacity of any such facility in India.
The resulting granulated rubber meets high inter-national quality standards, as it is 99.9% free of steel and textiles.
“Our goal is to establish and further develop local recycling projects. Ferrostaal is a long-term partner in this process, one that brings technology and market knowledge to the table and is able to cover the entire process, in this case from the delivery of the raw material through to approval of the end products from the tyre-recycling plant,” says S&J Granulate Solutions management Kishan Jiwarajka and Amit Agarwal.
“The commissioning of the plant in Vapi represents an important step for India in the field of industrial waste recovery. The fully automatic facility turns shredded used tyres into high-quality granulated rubber, which is used for surfacing sport facilities and playgrounds.
“As the recycled mate-rial can be used in the devel-opment of the country’s infrastructure, investment in such projects produces rapid returns and the tyre-recycling plant meets the demands of energy efficiency and sustainability,” notes Ferrostaal India head Dr Gurnad Sodhi.
In November 2011, Ferro-staal officially inaugurated an Eldan tyre-recycling plant in Abu Dhabi, which remains the biggest facility of its kind in the United Arab Emirates.
“Ferrostaal is our partner in the Middle East and North Africa region, India, China and Latin America. We want to continue to expand our business in those areas together,” says Eldan Recycling MD Dr Toni Reft-man.
In addition to comprehen-sive consultancy, Ferrostaal’s service offering includes pro- ject development, commission-ing and machine maintenance.
Plant financing is also avail- able if required. In the area of environmental technology, Ferrostaal also provides facili-ties for the recycling of scrap cable, aluminium, magnesium, electronics and plastics, as well as refrigeration units, water treatment plants and odour neutralisation systems.
