An emphasis on improving the durability of low- voltage electric insulat- ing switchboards has resulted in the creation of a switchboard manufactured from thermoplastic material, says Elquip Solutions MD Mike Cronin.
As a third-party channel for ABB low-voltage products in Southern Africa, Elquip Solutions will be distributing these sturdy products to its client base.
“The Gemini switchboards, which are fully compatible with ABB low-voltage control and monitoring components, are a welcome addition to our current product offering,” he adds.
Cronin explains that the Gemini switchboards are manufactured using co-injection moulding techniques to provide the same mechanical characteristics as polyester. “This results in an extremely robust product with a rigid covering and expanded internal core. In low-voltage applications, the Gemini switchboards can be equipped with modular miniature circuit-breaker devices from the System pro M range, together with Tmax moulded-case circuit breakers and control and signal devices. This creates a fully integrated automation system.”
Cronin points out that Elquip Solutions’ clients have the bene- fit of acquiring a customised layout for their control and monitoring applications. “Not only is it possible to select the box and door in the required size, but clients can also select one of three base-plate versions available in the range.
“Wiring is quickly and easily achieved using the ducts and the Fix-O-Rapid device. Other design flexibility is apparent in the seven different depths available when fitting the base plate inside the box. A further three levels of adjustment are then provided. The installation is designed for easy implementation, as it requires no tools,” he adds.
Gemini switchboards can be operated in arduous industrial conditions, owing to their IP66 rating when closed, and their high resistance to chemicals and atmospheric agents.
“Our low-voltage clients demand products that are reliable and low maintenance. The introduction of the Gemini range of low-voltage electric insulating switchboards offers clients the traditional benefits expected from a polyester/fibreglass material mixture. However, owing to its thermoplastic construction, it also provides them with the added benefits of material stability and enhanced safety,” states Cronin.
He adds that compliance with International Electrotechnical Commission standards, coupled with a resistance to tempera- tures of up to 750 ºC, ensures unfailing operation under severe conditions.
