Screening media products manufacturer Ludowici Meshcape aims to be a service-driven company, instead of predominately focusing on sales, says GM Ross Dott.
Customer support services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team, which identifies repetitive problems and eliminates these by modifying designs and taking other remedial action.
“Our network of field support personnel includes process support managers, engineers, and technical and service staff in materials handling, metallurgy, mining and minerals processing,” he says.
The company has specialists permanently on site to improve equipment performance and screen and plant efficiencies, as well as advise on maintenance issues.
The specialists are also responsible for panel management, inventory management, condition monitoring, work on new developments and recommending operational changes to improve efficiency.
Ludowici Meshcape creates screening media for a variety of industrial applications from filtration and purification to wire conveyor systems for the food and beverage industry.
“We have the necessary tooling available to cater for almost any specification a client requires, from extremely heavy applications to much lighter materials. “At our last count, we are involved in 85 to 90 industries,” he says.
Screens are developed especially for specific applications, says Dott.
Since Meshcape merged with Ludowici in September last year, the company has embarked on a programme to expand its manufacturing capabilities, in particular the polyurethane and wedge wire divisions.
“The expansion is not limited to these two areas only, as there are a number of other products we are also driving, which includes wear-resitant and ceramic products, seals and vibrating equipment, besides others,” says Dott.
“For example, our contract with the Khumani mine was recently increased from an R8-million budget for 2012 to a R23-million budget,” he says.
Despite a number of challenges, the outlook for the screening industry in South Africa and Africa is good, says Dott.
“We are seeing a lot of competition entering the market, which increases the importance of ensuring that our service is more than what is expected from the customer. “Our products are all manufactured to International Standards Organisation standards. We have a good reputation in terms of quality and reliability, and all we have to do is back up the products and support our customers,” he says.
