Portfolio Diversification – Why Copper, Why Now?
BMO Capital Markets managing director and commodities analyst Helen Amos speaks to Creamer Media’s Mariaan Webb about why investors are rewarding copper exposure, how mining companies are reshaping their portfolios, and what is driving the rush for copper assets. Video and Editing: Nicholas Boyd.
Mining companies are increasingly reshaping their portfolios around copper as investors place a premium on exposure to the metal, driving a wave of acquisitions, asset reviews and strategic repositioning across the sector.
This is according to BMO Capital Markets managing director and commodities analyst Helen Amos, who spoke in the fourth episode of Creamer Media's IN FOCUS copper series, which examines the forces reshaping the global copper market.
Amos argues that the growing focus on copper is not simply a reflection of favourable market fundamentals, but also of investor sentiment. Mining companies are increasingly being rewarded for increasing their exposure to copper.
“The question is not so much why mining companies want to focus on copper, but why investors like copper,” Amos said.
The interview forms part of the fourth episode of Creamer Media's five-part IN FOCUS series on copper.
