The new Alimak SE-Ex range is compliant with European and US regulations and standards.
It offers protection in Zone 1 or 2, gas group IIA or IIB and temperature class T1 to T4 and class 1 divi- sion 2, gas group C or D, temperature class T1 to T4 respectively.
The range offers capacities of between 400 kg and 1 600 kg and has direct on-line motor control. The Alimak SE-Ex is available in 15 car sizes, ranging from 0,91 m 5 1,3 m to 1,56 m 5 2,21 m. It travels at speeds from 0,4 m to 0,6 m a second.
For the first time the Ex range features standard-build components to the same quality standards as the Alimak SE range, but modified and re-engineered to cope with the challenging demands of the offshore and petrochemicals industries.
The Alimak SE-Ex range is promoted as offering safer transportation for workers and materials in potentially hazardous environments.
It also features a proven rack and pinion build, as used in several platform structures, including platform modules, derrick towers and hull structures. This eliminates movement in potentially hazardous stairways and ladderways, to provide access to, for example, pump and machine rooms. The lift car is constructed from extruded aluminium and hot-dip galvanised steel to improve operator comfort without compromising reliability and resistance to tough working environments.
The car door can be positioned on any of the three sides of the car away from the mast and is mechanically and electrically interlocked.
Electric cabinets and landing control boxes are fabricated in stainless steel.
Stainless-steel car walls, doors and other components are also available for extremely aggressive environments.
The Alimak SE-Ex is equipped with a new collective control system, the AC-II, encompassing a built-in fault-indication programme that ensures stopping accuracy and ease of use.
The ALC-II system can be provided with a range of optional features, such as auto return, auto alarm and fire and gas alarm.
The controls are positioned on a panel in the car and the lift is pushbutton operated.
The new range has all the standard Alimak safety features: a progressive safety device comes into operation in the event of the lift exceeding the rated speed bringing the car to a smooth stop and the power to the drive motor is cut off.
The machinery plate is constructed to ensure that the pinion of the safety device is always engaged with the rack.
Safety hooks located beneath the lowest drive pinion make sure the car cannot climb over the top of the mast.
Limit switches are provided at the top and ground levels and there is an ultimate limit switch in case of overrun.
In addition, there is a phase failure relay that protects the electrical system.
The lift is normally equipped with a centrifugal brake, located between the motor and the gearbox, that allows passengers to be lowered to the landing in the event of a power failure.
