Engen has stepped up to help support an orphanage as part of the company’s Employee Community Partnership Programme (ECPP).

RAISE Helping Hands was founded in November 2020 and strives to address poverty in Edenvale and surrounding areas of the East Rand.

The NPO is committed to giving back to those less fortunate by providing monthly grocery hampers to the homeless and hungry households as well as offering support to orphanages, shelters, schools and the destitute.

“We are extremely grateful to Engen for their donation, which enabled us to offer support to a local Orphanage in the area via food hampers and other essentials such as toiletries,” comments RAISE Helping Hands chairperson, Calvin Naidoo.

“Our beneficiaries have come to rely on the food parcels we distribute every month, which has created happier homes and helped to reduce crime in the area,” he adds.

Engen’s ECPP seeks to create meaningful partnerships between Engen employees who are involved in community upliftment initiatives, and their local communities, and thereby foster a caring company ethos.

In this case, a member of Engen’s Lubricants team (who asked not to be named) applied for funding through the ECPP to help the less fortunate in her local community.

Engen is committed to helping to uplift local communities,” says the company’s manager of Transformation and Stakeholder Engagement, Dr James Xolani Myawera.

“This is the very aim of the Employee Community Partnership Programme, which seeks to create meaningful partnerships between Engen employees who are involved in community upliftment initiatives, and their local communities, and thereby further foster a caring company ethos.”

RAISE Helping Hands was eligible for a R5 000 ECPP grant from Engen.
