Engen and Mineral Sands Resources’ Tormin Mines recently joined hands to support young West Coast footballers by sponsoring a tournament held at the Vredendal-North Sports Stadium.

The two-day tournament was officiated by the Matzikama Local Football Association (MALFA) with 17 clubs from the surrounding communities of Lutzville, Vredendal, Rietpoort, Pitekloof, Engenhaeaser and Stofkraal competing for honours.

Engen and Tormin Mines jointly sponsored branded football kits for all 17 teams, as well as kit for MALFA officials and referees, trophies and medals for the winning teams, and a soccer ball for each club.

As a caring company, Engen is committed to helping uplift the country’s youth through sports sponsorship and social investment.

“We hope that our small contribution will go a long way in contributing to the growth of football in the Vredendal community,” says Engen Stakeholder Engagement and Transformation Manager, Dr James Xolani Nyawera.

“It is well documented, that participation and involvement in sport helps to build stronger, healthier and happier communities,” he adds.

Engen has been the proud sponsor of the Engen Knockout Challenge youth football tournament for over 20 years.

In 2021, the Engen Knockout Challenge introduced a women’s event, affording some of the country’s most talented female footballers a stage on which to also showcase their talent.
