Ramaphosa, formerly of Anglo American Corporation, will replace Adv Dali Mpofu at the group's Parktown head office.
Dali left Altron last year to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer of the SABC, but remains on the Altron Board as a non-executive director.
In his new position, Ramaphosa will be a member of the executive committees of Altron and its major subsidiaries, Altech, BTG and Powertech.
He will also join various of the group companies' Boards of Directors and will chair the Altron Group Transformation Committee. Prior to his new appointment with Altron, Ramaphosa held the position of group executive head: public affairs reporting to the chief executive officer of Anglo American South Africa and has held a similar position at ABSA.
“Douglas joins Altron with extensive experience in areas of communication, corporate transformation, strategic development, corporate social investment and black economic empowerment as well as wider corporate affairs functions and we are looking forward to his contribution to our group in this regard,” said Venter.
Ramaphosa is an MA graduate in Social Sciences and a graduate of the Lausanne (Switzerland) Management Development Programme and has worked in large corporations in areas of human resources; marketing; communications, corporate social investment and public relations.
His other involvements include a non-executive directorship of Rotek Industries, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eskom Enterprises; co-chairman of the National Business Initiative (NBI) and a member of Business Leadership South Africa. A non-executive directorship of Eskom Enterprises, chairmanship of the Alexander Motswedi Centre, an NGO focusing on skills development and job creation, as well as a trusteeship of The Nations Trust.
