It is becoming more and more obvious that business owners and managers need to focus on data centre optimisation. With budgets remaining tight, data centres are notably increasing in complexity and storage space is growing at a rate of 20% a year.
These were the key trends affecting global companies when referring to the management of IT risk and maximising information tech- nology (IT) performance, as reflected in Symantec’s third annual report, ‘The State of the Data Centre’. Other key findings include the vulnerability of disaster recovery plans and the fact that midsized enterprises are leading the way in the adoption of new technologies.
Symantec storage specialist Sheldon Hand says that the key initiatives for the year ahead will be security, backup and recovery and continuous data protection, which will all result in more effective information management.Recovery Plans
Symantec’s research also found that only 80% of participants felt confident about their disaster recovery plans, one-third of the respondents had plans that were undocu- mented or needed work, and one-third had not re-evaluated their disaster recovery plan in the past year, as their data centre was too complex and they did not have enough staff to test such plans.
