A compact drive for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) controls for fans, pumps and compressors, as well as air handling units and pump skids has been developed.
ABB's ACH480 drive includes a number of built-in features, such as proportional integral derivative, or PID, controllers, electromagnetic compatibility, or EMC, filters, clocks and timers.
The drive is a compact, panel-mounted version of the ACH580 and the shared firmware, user interface and options, enable both drive series to be applied in one installation. In addition, it can be connected with ABB’s digital ABB Ability, which provides real-time data about drive status and performance from a remote location.
The uniform enclosure height and depth allows for installation in most original equipment manufacturer equipment and the common protocols facilitate integration into building management systems. The drive can be customised to meet specific needs and its built-in energy optimiser supports high efficiency motors and encourages energy savings.
ACH480’s control panel has full graphical display, an HVAC-specific primary settings menu, help assistants and optional Bluetooth functionality for wireless commissioning and monitoring.

Comprehensive testing at nominal loads with maximum temperature is applied during production of the drives, offering protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and other emergency situations.
