World Nuclear Association

The World Nuclear Association is an international organisation representing the global nuclear energy industry, with a membership that includes uranium miners, reactor vendors, fuel fabricators, utilities, waste managers and research institutions. Established in 2001 as the successor to the Uranium Institute, the association is headquartered in London and serves as the principal trade body advocating for the peaceful use of nuclear power. Its stated mission is to promote the understanding of nuclear energy's role in meeting future energy needs in a sustainable manner, and to support the safe, secure and economic application of nuclear technology. The association provides policy analysis, technical information and industry statistics, and organises conferences and working groups on topics ranging from reactor technology and fuel cycles to decommissioning and public communication. It publishes authoritative data on global uranium supply, reactor construction and electricity generation, widely cited by governments, investors and researchers. Membership spans more than 40 countries, including major nuclear nations such as the United States, France, Russia, China and South Africa. The World Nuclear Association engages with international bodies including the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's Nuclear Energy Agency. It plays an active role in shaping industry standards, promoting new reactor designs such as small modular reactors, and addressing public concerns about safety and waste management.
