South Australia

South Australia is a state in the southern central part of Australia. Its capital is Adelaide, which serves as the state's economic and administrative centre. South Australia has a population of about 1.8-million people, with the majority concentrated in the Adelaide metropolitan area. The state's economy is anchored by mining, agriculture, manufacturing, defence industries and renewable energy. South Australia is a major producer of copper, iron ore, gold, uranium and other minerals, with significant operations in regions such as the Olympic Dam mine and the Gawler Craton. The state also produces substantial volumes of wine, wheat, barley and livestock. South Australia has emerged as a leader in renewable energy generation, particularly wind and solar power, supported by large-scale battery storage infrastructure. The state government operates under a Westminster parliamentary system, with a premier and cabinet responsible to the House of Assembly. South Australia's mineral resources and exploration activity make it a recurring focus in mining and commodities coverage. The state was established as a British province in 1836 and became a founding member of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901.
