Solly Msimanga

Solly Msimanga is a South African politician serving as a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA). He is a prominent figure in Gauteng provincial politics, where he has held various leadership positions within the DA and in government. Msimanga served as the mayor of Tshwane from 2016 to 2018, leading the DA-led coalition government in the capital city during a period of significant political contestation in South Africa's metropolitan municipalities. His tenure as mayor was marked by efforts to address governance challenges and service delivery issues in the municipality. Following his resignation as Tshwane mayor, he contested the DA's internal leadership structures and remained active in provincial politics. Msimanga has been a key DA representative in Gauteng, South Africa's economic heartland, where the party competes vigorously for control of major metros including Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni. He has held positions including Gauteng DA leader and has been involved in coalition negotiations and municipal governance debates. His political career reflects the DA's strategy to build support in urban centres and to position itself as an alternative to the African National Congress in key metropolitan areas. Msimanga continues to feature in coverage of Gauteng politics, particularly around municipal governance, coalition dynamics and the DA's electoral strategy in the province.
