Sanlam

Sanlam is a South African financial services group offering life insurance, investment management, retirement planning, asset management and wealth management products. Headquartered in Cape Town, the company operates across Africa, India, South-East Asia, the United Kingdom and selected other international markets. Sanlam is listed on the JSE Securities Exchange and ranks among the largest financial services groups in Africa by market capitalisation and assets under management. The group serves retail, corporate and institutional clients through multiple brands and subsidiaries, including Sanlam Personal Finance, Sanlam Emerging Markets, Sanlam Investment Group and Sanlam Corporate. Its product range spans individual and group life cover, unit trusts, retirement annuities, medical scheme administration, short-term insurance and credit solutions. Sanlam manages assets worth hundreds of billions of rand and employs tens of thousands of people across its operations. The group has expanded its footprint through acquisitions and partnerships in markets including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Botswana, Malaysia and India. Sanlam was founded in 1918 as South African National Life Assurance Company, initially to provide Afrikaans-speaking South Africans with access to life insurance, and demutualised in 1998 when it listed on the JSE.
