Richards Bay Dry Bulk Terminal

Richards Bay Dry Bulk Terminal is a major dry bulk export facility located in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The terminal is operated by Transnet Port Terminals, a division of the state-owned freight logistics group Transnet. It is one of the largest dry bulk terminals in the Southern Hemisphere and serves as a critical export gateway for South Africa's mining sector. The facility handles a range of bulk commodities, including coal, chrome, magnetite and manganese ore, which are transported from inland mining regions to international markets. Richards Bay Dry Bulk Terminal plays a strategic role in the country's export infrastructure, supporting the movement of mineral resources from provinces such as the Northern Cape and inland mining areas to global buyers. The terminal's capacity and efficiency are vital to the competitiveness of South African mining exports. It features deep-water berths, extensive stockpiling areas and mechanised loading systems designed to handle large volumes of cargo. The facility has been in operation for several decades and remains a cornerstone of South Africa's bulk commodity export network. Ongoing investment and maintenance are essential to sustain throughput and address operational challenges in the port system.
