Peabody Energy

Peabody Energy is a United States–based coal mining company and one of the world's largest private-sector coal producers. The company is headquartered in St Louis, Missouri, and operates coal mines across the US and Australia, focusing primarily on thermal coal for electricity generation and metallurgical coal for steelmaking. Peabody is publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BTU. Its operations span surface and underground mines, with key assets in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming, the Illinois Basin and Queensland's Bowen Basin in Australia. The company supplies coal to electricity generators, industrial customers and steelmakers in more than 25 countries. Peabody has undergone significant restructuring in recent years, including a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2016 from which it emerged in 2017. The company employs several thousand people globally and remains a major player in the global seaborne coal trade. Peabody was founded in 1883 by Francis Peabody, making it one of the oldest continuously operating coal companies in the world. Despite the global energy transition, the company continues to position itself as a supplier of essential energy and steelmaking materials.
