Patricia De Lille

Patricia De Lille is a South African politician who has served as Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure since August 2021 and Minister of Tourism since March 2023. She is the founder and former leader of the Good party, which she established in December 2018. De Lille previously served as Executive Mayor of Cape Town from 2011 to 2018, a tenure marked by both infrastructure achievements and political controversy that ultimately led to her resignation from the Democratic Alliance (DA). Before her mayoral term, she was a member of Parliament for nearly two decades, representing the Pan Africanist Congress and later the Independent Democrats, a party she founded in 2003. She is known for her anti-corruption stance and was instrumental in exposing the apartheid-era arms deal scandal in the early 2000s. De Lille joined the DA in 2010 when the Independent Democrats merged with the party, but left amid acrimonious disputes in 2018. Her political career has been characterised by her willingness to cross party lines and challenge established power structures. In her current ministerial roles, she oversees critical infrastructure development and the tourism sector, both vital to South Africa's economic recovery. De Lille remains a prominent figure in South African politics, known for her outspoken style and focus on service delivery and accountability.
