North-West University

North-West University is a public research university in South Africa with campuses in Potchefstroom, Mahikeng and Vanderbijlpark. The institution was formed in January 2004 through the merger of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, the University of North-West and the Sebokeng campus of Vista University. It operates as a multi-campus university serving the North West province and parts of Gauteng. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across faculties including engineering, natural sciences, economic and management sciences, health sciences, education, law, theology and humanities. North-West University has established research strengths in areas including mining, metallurgy, chemistry, environmental sciences and indigenous knowledge systems. The institution maintains partnerships with industry and government, contributing research and expertise to South Africa's minerals and energy sectors. Its Potchefstroom campus hosts significant engineering and science facilities relevant to platinum-group metals research and hydrogen technology development. The university is one of South Africa's 26 public universities and enrolls more than 60 000 students across its campuses. North-West University has positioned itself as a research-intensive institution with particular focus on applied sciences and technologies relevant to the country's resource economy.
