MyCiTi

MyCiTi is the integrated rapid transit bus system operated by the City of Cape Town in South Africa. The service was launched in May 2010 ahead of the FIFA World Cup and provides public transport across various routes in the metropolitan area. MyCiTi operates as a bus rapid transit (BRT) system, featuring dedicated lanes, modern stations and a cashless fare system using smart cards. The network connects key areas including the central business district, Table View, Dunoon, Atlantis and the Atlantic Seaboard, with ongoing expansion to townships such as Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha. The system is designed to offer a safe, reliable and affordable alternative to private vehicles and minibus taxis. MyCiTi buses run on scheduled routes with real-time passenger information and accessibility features. The fleet includes both diesel and electric vehicles, with the City of Cape Town progressively introducing battery-electric buses to reduce emissions. The service forms part of the city's broader sustainable transport strategy and urban mobility planning. MyCiTi has become an important component of Cape Town's public transport infrastructure, serving commuters, students and tourists across the metropolitan area.
