Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi is a Japanese multinational conglomerate comprising numerous autonomous businesses that share the Mitsubishi brand and trademark. The group operates across diverse sectors including automotive, heavy industries, chemicals, energy, finance, and trading. Mitsubishi Corporation, one of the largest general trading companies in Japan, handles commodities, machinery, and infrastructure projects globally. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries manufactures power systems, aircraft, ships, and industrial equipment. Mitsubishi Motors produces passenger vehicles and commercial trucks, with a presence in markets worldwide. Mitsubishi Chemical develops advanced materials, petrochemicals, and industrial products. The group has significant operations in renewable energy, hydrogen technology, and fuel cell development, aligning with global decarbonisation trends. Mitsubishi maintains strategic partnerships in the mining and metals sectors, particularly in platinum-group metals supply chains for automotive and energy applications. The conglomerate has a substantial footprint in Africa, including investments in mining projects and industrial ventures in South Africa. The Mitsubishi group traces its origins to a shipping firm founded by Yataro Iwasaki in 1870, which expanded into mining, shipbuilding, and banking before the Second World War, and was restructured into independent companies during the post-war period.
