Miami

Miami is a major city in the US state of Florida, serving as the seat of Miami-Dade County. With a metropolitan population exceeding six-million people, it is the largest urban area in the south-eastern United States and the ninth-largest in the country. The city is a global centre for finance, commerce, culture, media and international trade, with a particularly strong focus on Latin American business connections. Miami's economy is driven by tourism, banking, healthcare, life sciences and international logistics, supported by the Port of Miami, one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, and Miami International Airport, a key gateway for cargo and passenger traffic to Latin America and the Caribbean. The city is also a hub for conferences and international summits, hosting events related to climate policy, development finance and energy transition. Miami's coastal location makes it economically significant but also vulnerable to sea-level rise and extreme weather events, which have shaped local and regional discussions on climate resilience and infrastructure investment. The city was incorporated in 1896 and has grown rapidly throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, becoming a leading centre for international business and a focal point for hemispheric diplomacy and trade.
