Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in Western Europe, bordered by Belgium, France and Germany. The capital is Luxembourg City, which serves as one of the three official capitals of the European Union and hosts several EU institutions. With a population of about 650 000, Luxembourg is one of the world's smallest sovereign states by area and population. Despite its size, the country has one of the highest GDP per capita figures globally, driven by a highly developed economy centred on banking, finance and investment fund management. The industrial sector, historically anchored by steel production, remains significant, with ArcelorMittal tracing its roots to Luxembourg-based steelmaking operations. Luxembourg is a founding member of the European Union, the eurozone, NATO, the Benelux Union and the United Nations. The currency is the euro, and the government operates as a constitutional monarchy with a grand duke as head of state and a parliamentary democracy. Luxembourg's strategic position in Europe, favourable tax regime and political stability have made it a major hub for international finance and corporate headquarters. The country is also a significant source of foreign direct investment into Africa and other regions, with Luxembourg-registered holding companies frequently used for cross-border transactions. The official languages are Luxembourgish, French and German, reflecting the country's multilingual and multicultural character.
