Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in Western Europe, bordered by Belgium, France and Germany. The capital is Luxembourg City, which serves as one of the three official capitals of the European Union and hosts several EU institutions. With a population of about 650 000, Luxembourg is one of the world's smallest sovereign states by area and population. Despite its size, the country has one of the highest GDP per capita figures globally, driven by a highly developed economy centred on banking, finance and investment fund management.
