Kia

Kia is a South Korean automotive manufacturer that produces passenger cars, sport utility vehicles and commercial vehicles. The company is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, and operates manufacturing facilities across Asia, Europe and the Americas. Kia is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, forming part of the Hyundai Motor Group, one of the world's largest automotive conglomerates. The brand's product range spans compact hatchbacks, sedans, crossovers and electric vehicles, with popular models including the Sportage, Sorento, Picanto and the EV6 electric crossover. Kia has established a significant presence in the South African market, competing with brands such as Toyota, Mazda and Chinese manufacturers including Haval, Chery and Omoda. The company has repositioned itself in recent years with a focus on design, quality and electrification, supported by a new brand identity and logo introduced in 2021. Kia's global sales exceed two and a half million vehicles annually, with strong performance in markets including South Korea, the United States and Europe. The manufacturer operates a network of dealerships and service centres worldwide, with vehicles distributed through platforms including AutoTrader in South Africa. Kia was founded in 1944 as a manufacturer of bicycle parts and steel tubing, entering automotive production in the 1970s and becoming a major global brand following its acquisition by Hyundai in 1998.
