Fleet Management

Fleet management is a technology and business discipline that enables organisations to coordinate, monitor and optimise the operation of vehicle and equipment fleets. It encompasses software platforms, telematics hardware and data analytics tools that track asset location, utilisation, maintenance schedules, fuel consumption and driver behaviour in real time. The technology is widely adopted across logistics, mining, construction, public transport and service industries where companies operate multiple vehicles or mobile equipment. Modern fleet management systems integrate GPS tracking, onboard diagnostics, fuel sensors and wireless communication to provide centralised visibility and control. Key functions include route planning and optimisation, preventive maintenance scheduling, compliance monitoring, cost analysis and performance reporting. Advanced solutions incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict equipment failures, reduce downtime and improve operational efficiency. Fleet management supports decarbonisation goals by enabling the transition to electric and hybrid vehicles, monitoring emissions and optimising energy use. The sector has grown rapidly with the proliferation of connected devices, cloud computing and the Internet of Things, transforming fleet operations from reactive maintenance to proactive asset management. Providers range from specialist software vendors to integrated telematics and hardware suppliers serving fleets of all sizes globally.
