Dion George

Dion George is a South African politician serving in the Government of National Unity formed after the 2024 general election. He is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa's official opposition party and a key partner in the coalition government. George holds a ministerial portfolio in President Cyril Ramaphosa's Cabinet, working alongside ministers from the African National Congress (ANC) and other coalition partners. His appointment reflects the DA's role in the power-sharing arrangement that emerged when no single party secured an outright majority in the National Assembly. George serves in a Cabinet that includes figures such as Deputy President Paul Mashatile, Minister Thembi Simelane, Minister Pemmy Majodina, Minister Parks Tau, Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga, Minister Dean Macpherson, Minister Solly Malatsi, Minister Siviwe Gwarube and Minister Gayton McKenzie. The DA is led by John Steenhuisen, who negotiated the party's participation in the unity government. George's ministerial responsibilities place him at the intersection of coalition politics and policy delivery in a government structure that brings together parties with historically divergent platforms. His role involves navigating the complexities of multiparty governance whilst advancing his portfolio's mandate within the framework of the unity government's priorities.
