Denmark

Denmark is a Nordic country in northern Europe, comprising the Jutland Peninsula and an archipelago of more than 400 islands, of which around 70 are inhabited. The capital is Copenhagen, which serves as the country's economic, political and cultural centre. Denmark has a population of about six-million people and operates a highly developed mixed economy with a strong welfare state, characterised by high living standards, low income inequality and extensive social services. The economy is diversified, with key sectors including pharmaceuticals, maritime shipping, renewable energy, agriculture and advanced manufacturing. Denmark is a global leader in wind energy technology and has set ambitious targets for carbon neutrality. The currency is the Danish krone, and the country is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government. Denmark is a member of the European Union but has opted out of the eurozone, and it is also a founding member of NATO and the United Nations. The Kingdom of Denmark includes two autonomous territories, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, which have significant natural resources including minerals and fisheries. Denmark's strategic location at the entrance to the Baltic Sea has historically made it an important maritime and trade hub. The country ranks consistently high in global indices for quality of life, ease of doing business and transparency.
